I have heard the mind described as a garden, with thoughts being as plants within it...

In this analogy, a pleasant thought is an attractive plant with flowers perhaps, while a useful thought may be a food, fiber or medicine producing plant, and an unpleasant thought may be seen as a weed.

Our attention could be seen as the water and nutrients we provide these plants to enable them to grow and reproduce.

Less attention means less growth and eventual death, perhaps, while more attention will enhance the solidity of the thought and the beliefs it is based upon.
