Political activists often encounter the stiffest resistance from their family...

But family members who are afraid of the family losing its private statues and of being targeted by those who oppose the family members public political views.

As a result family members will often exert the most force, physically and emotionally, over other family members who consider stepping out of line, politically speaking.

As Jesus is quoted as saying:
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple."  Luke 14:25-27

So if a person is fully committed to the path of a political activist then it will often be against the will of their family and may cause tensions with it that may result in their being ex-communicated from it.
