The deceiving of the public by the overlords

The overlords, using their almost endless resources, try to con the population into believing that their interests are the same as the interests of the overlords, when they are almost entirely in opposition. Many buy it, but many do not. The brainwashing runs deep and for many people there is a sense of guilt for refusing to accept the programming that most of the population mindless obeys.
