I've seen parents trying to squeeze severely autistic children and young adults into boxes they are ill-equipped to inhabit.
The idea of many of them having a job and partner may be completely unrealistic and cause pain for the holder of the expectation and the object of it forced to bear what they hate and be seen as a failure.
The goal should be a life enjoyable and fulfilling as is possible, without focusing too heavily on social goals that may never be reached.
