It's very hard to convince people that what they have been led to believe is truth is just PR , widely promoted to serve the interests of various power blocs in our society.
People become attached to the beliefs that have been foistered upon them and will fight anyone who threatens them.
This is much like the phenomena of "stockhold syndrome" where captives start to identify and sympathise with their captors.
A very similar thing happens in our society where the beliefs the negative power elite spread widely to harm the population as taken up by its members as if they were their own.
