The blind watchmaker concept, as popularised by Richard Dawkins and other modern Darwinists, pleases many people because it does away with need for a creator God.
Such a God is seen as problematic by many science minded people and so to do away with the notion completely is pleasing.
The "blind watchmaker" idea also reduces the need for ET genetic manipulators to have a hand in developing life on earth and the creation of man, as many ancient scholars and modern mystics contend.
