To think that “evil” acts are only carried out, or instigated, by “evil” people is naive, to say the least. They are also carried out by angry people, frightened people, people trying to gain or hold on to power, those blinded by greed, those blind to their consequence or a combination of these things.
Often seemingly "good" people carry out such atrocities, involving the killing of one or more people, for the reasons given above and generally because they believe "the ends justifies the means" and they are willing to absolve themselves from responsibility for these foul deeds.
