Ways to “get away” with murder

Ways to “get away”* with murder, that are commonly used:

1. Make it look like a suicide. Examples: Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Monroe.
2. Make it look like a robbery gone wrong Examples: Meredith Kercher, Patrick Swayse’s character in Ghost, James and Danielle Alexander
3. Cause an “accident” such as a car crash, plane crash, drowning, or accident at home to befall the victim.  Examples: Princess Diana, John Kennedy Jr, Paul Wellstone, Gary Webb.
4. The use of technology or poison to induce a heart attack, cancer, etc. to make the death look naturally caused. Examples: Hugo Chavez, Tim Russert
5. Make it look like someone else or some other group or country carried it out. Examples: John F. Kennedy assassination, 9/11 attacks.

The key point is to deflect attention away from the real perpetrators by making it look like either (a) it wasn't a murder or (b) that someone else did it.

These techniques are employed without fail by true professional criminals and also by some amateurs, as well.

*Get away in quotation marks because I don't think anyone really gets away with anything, ever!
