Compulsory anything (e.g. schooling, military service, vaccination, voting, etc.) is totalitarian, and has no place in a free society, but I don't see many people complaining, particularly when such things are applied to children, or if they involve actions the person generally agrees with.
This lack of resistance to such authoritarianism is due to widespread brainwashing, something governments and establishment institutions are very good at.
This results in the creation of "sheeple"- people who blindly follow the norms of their society, like lambs to the slaughter, unquestioningly.
This is essential for a totalitarian system to continue, otherwise the overt use of force would be needed to keep people in order and that can get ugly and create more widespread resistance than blind obedience caused by brainwashing does!
