The mixture of truth and fiction that religion provides can makes it seem more the work of "the devil" than of God.
It really depends on how people choose to use it.
Though much of religion may be inspired by noble thoughts, many followers cannot tell the difference between this part of their faith and the parts put in by ignorant man!
This can make religion more harmful for some people''s spiritual growth than no religion at all and explains why some previous followers drop belief completely and embrace atheism when the foolishness of some of their previous views becomes apparent!
