Written in response to the fear of current "new age" teachings held by many conventional Christians
To the establishment Jews of Jesus's time, he was a dangerous "New Age" teacher, to be feared and reviled.
Today's conventional Christians are probably the one's who would have been most scared of him at the time, given their adherence to orthodox, socially acceptable views.
If new teachings are automatically rejected then progression is impossible, as the fear mongers would prefer it!
If no-one was willing to embrace new ideas and a new teacher during the time of Jesus then we wouldn't have heard of Jesus today and Christianity wouldn't exist.
As a result today's conventional Christians would then have belonged to some other conventional belief system, where they would feel safety in numbers and would continue to fear the new.
