One key difference between people is whether they believe in: (1) Revelation. That is, knowledge coming from within themselves, which they may attribute to their soul or to spiritual beings, or (2) That knowledge must always come from outside ourselves, in some physical form.
This will impact on what sources of knowledge they trust and pay attention to and which sources they tend to ignore and discredit.
People in the second group tend to place their trust in outside authorities, unless they deem them corrupt whereas the first group believes true wisdom comes from listening to messages that come from within.
