Why is being "pro-choice" associated with the legal right of a mother to have her unborn child destroyed?

Why doesn't being "pro-choice" refer to more wholesome types of rights, such as the right to choose what health care we and our children receive, without being punished for going against the recommendations of a corrupt medical system?
