According to the media and the government science is all about not questioning things. I.e. just repeating what you're told and not thinking about it. Only one viewpoint allowed.
I would say that that is a feature of a bad religion, and nothing to do with what science is really all about - open-minded inquiry.
It is definitely not about attempts to brainwash people so they all think the same way and outlaw thought that goes against it.
Why not let the truth defend itself in a free market of ideas?
Afraid the lie win?
