It's unwise to use machine analogies for describing the universe and its' component parts if we are arguing against the existence of a God.
The reason being, that the only true machines in existence, that we know of, are the creation of mankind- living, intelligent, conscious and emotional beings, much as God is posited to be.
So it would be foolish to describe living systems as mechanical unless we wish to invoke the concept of a creator of such "machines". And this is something no self-respecting atheist would ever wish to do!
